Arashiyama winter lights

Zen Vegetarian Lunch

December 14th 2021.
It was the beginning of winter, it started to be cold in the night... Arashiyama decided to light up its famous bridge and surrounded mountains for the last time in 2021. They have done this for the past 20 years to attract people and tourists but now as it is very well known the light show is no more needed. So we went to see the last one... both sides of the river was packed with people when the night came. All eager to look at the scenery. It was cold to stay next to the river so after a while we crossed the bridge to go on the other side and see what was happening there... and we saw many lights on the ground, all made by visitors who stop to draw on a special piece of paper that will then be put to encircle a light There is a queue of people wanting to draw something... the lights all look very bright lying on the ground or hanging on the trees....
